Family Based

A green card through marriage to a US citizen is the most common way to become a permanent resident. A K-1 (fiancé) visa is a temporary visa, for couples who aren't married to their U.S. citizen partner but plan to be. A spouse visa (also called a CR-1 visa) applies to couples who are married when one person is a U.S. citizen or green card holder living in the U.S. and the noncitizen spouse lives abroad.  If the marriage is less than two years old when the green card is granted, it will expire in two years.

H-1B Professionals

The H1B visa is a temporary work visa that allows US employers to hire highly qualified workers for specialty jobs. H1B visas are subject to a numerical cap of 65,000 per fiscal year. In addition, 20,000 persons who obtain advanced degrees from universities in the U.S. have their own H1B cap. H1B visa is generally valid for three years, and can usually be extended for up to six years.

EB-5 Investor Green Card

EB5 investors are those who invest $1,050,000 in a new commercial enterprise and create 10 jobs for U.S. workers. However, if the enterprise is located in either a rural or a high-unemployment area, the amount of funds which need to be invested is reduced to $800,000. Over 90% of all EB5 investors do not start their own businesses. Instead, they invest $800,000 in one of over 600 Regional Centers. 10,000 immigrant visas per year are available to qualified individuals seeking EB5 investor green cards.  

E-2 Investor Visa

E2 visa is only available to citizens of Treaty Countries with the United States.The investor must demonstrate that he controls the enterprise by showing ownership of at least 50% of the enterprise, by possessing operational control through a managerial position or other corporate device or by other means.

L-1 Intracompany Transferees

Foreign-born persons who work abroad for a company with a parent, subsidiary, branch or affiliate in the US are allowed to come to the US as L-1A intracompany transferees to perform managerial or executive duties. This classification also enables a company that does not yet have an office in the US to send an executive or manager to the US with the purpose of establishing one.
